A Collect for Provision

But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, 'It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.' And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, 'Arise and eat.' And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again. - 1 Kings 19:4-6 (ESV) Sovereign One, who commands the armies of the heavens and has all authority over heaven and earth, you at times call us to walk in difficult places where we are frightened and alone. Strengthen our hearts

A Collect for Gratitude and Mission

"The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 'Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.' And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him." - Luke 8:38-39 (ESV) Generous Lord, who gives great gifts to your children, give us grateful hearts that overflow with thankfulness and joy, that we, like the man possessed be a legion, might spread our story and our joy to everyone near us, through you who lives in eternal happiness with the Father and Holy Spirit. Amen. #Gratitude #Mission #Joy

A Collect for Courage in the Face of Goodness

"Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid." - Luke 8:35 (ESV) Holy God, who brings order to the universe and order within our souls, you know that sometimes what is good and right and beautiful can also strike us as fearful and unwanted. Give us steadfastness to remain present with you in what you are doing, trusting that it is good, even if we fear it, in the name of your Son, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. #Fear #Courage

A Collect for Fear and Love

"Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. When Jesus had stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he had not lived in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him and said with a loud voice, 'What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me.'" - Luke 8:26-28 (ESV) Holy Lord, who wields a sword from your mouth and rules over all created things and causes even the demons to tremble, give us reverence for your power and authority that we might fear and love you both, not forgetting your mercy nor disregar

A Collect for Wisdom in Creation

"You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas." Psalm 8:6-8 (ESV) Creator of all things, who contemplated your work from eternity past and crafted a universe of beauty and wonder, give us wisdom to rule over your creation well, that we might preserve and protect what you have made and not merely see it as a source to satisfy our selfish pleasures, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, on God, now and forever. Amen. #Creation #Wisdom

A Collect for Gratitude

"What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor." Ps. 8:4-5 (ESV) Highly exalted one, who sits enthroned above all and directs the order of the universe, we are grateful for the honor you have bestowed upon us in making us in your image and giving us our position in creation. Help us remember this as a gift and not of our own making, that we might give glory back to you, our Lord and Creator, through your son, Jesus, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit in glory now and forever. Amen. #Gratitude #Humility

A Collect for Humility

"When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?" - Psalm 8:3-4 (ESV) Creator of Heaven and Earth, remind us of how small we are in comparison to you and all that you have made, that we would not believe ourselves to be higher or greater than we truly are, but walk in humility and gratitude toward you, through Jesus Christ, who demonstrated the way of humbleness yet has returned to you and the Holy Spirit in glory. Amen.

A Collect for Wisdom and Willingness

"When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth." - John 16:13 (ESV) Spirit of truth, who alone knows the depths of God but has been graciously given to us, your creations, give us willing hearts to receive the truth you offer and open ourselves to whatever you desire to give us, so that we might not shy away from things we do not wish to hear, but would embrace your wisdom and steer our lives to align with your will and your ways. We ask this through the Son, who lives with you and the Father in perpetual light. Amen. #truth #wisdom #willingness

A Collect for Kindled Hearts

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments." - John 14:15 (ESV) Beloved Lord, who loved us before creation and desired our being before it was made, kindle an increasing love in our hearts for you so that we might naturally obey your word and walk in your ways. We ask this in your name, who lives and reigns with the Father and Holy Spirit in perpetual loving relationship. Amen. #love #obedience

A Collect for Faith

"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father." - John 14:12 (ESV) Savior of us all, who has enabled us to have faith at all, help us to trust you with our whole hearts that we might be able to do your works in the world and understand what it is that you are calling us to do in your name and in the name of the Father, with whom you live with the Holy Spirit in perpetual union, world without end. Amen. #faith #works #trust

A Collect for Connection to God

"Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves." - John 14:10-11 (ESV) Holy One of God, who is in the Father and the Father is in you, help us to receive you into our hearts more fully that you might dwell in us as the Father dwells in you, so that we might do your works as you do your Father's, through you who lives in unity and trinity now and forever. Amen. #Abiding #Indwelling

A Collect for Awareness

"Philip said to him, 'Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.' Jesus said to him, 'Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, "Show us the Father"?'" - John 14:8-9 (ESV) Invisible, yet visible God, who revealed yourself in our likeness as the Son so that we might experience you in familiarity and relationship, open our eyes so that we might see and experience your presence and your desire to be with us and might welcome you fully into our lives and hearts, through him who walked among us and sent us the Spirit with whom you live in glory now and forever. Amen. #Awareness #Presence #InvisibleGod #Rev
