A Collect for Perspective

'And he said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come."' - Luke 11:2 (ESV) Father, who understands our weakness and the power of our own desires and needs, grant us a vision to see beyond our desires and a glimpse of your perspective, that we might recognize your ways as truly wise and befitting our nature and able to bring us into something greater than ourselves, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit in perfect unity. Amen. #Perspective #Desire #Wisdom

A Collect for Humility and Wisdom

'Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”' - Luke 11:1 (ESV) O God, who listens and who willingly teaches those who lack knowledge, let us never be so proud that we believe it no longer necessary to learn from you or from others, that we might recognize our humble state and reach out to you for ever greater wisdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us the wisdom of the Father and teaches us still through the Holy Spirit. Amen. #Humility #Wisdom #Teaching

A Collect for Pausing

"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her." - Luke 10:41-42 (ESV) Gracious Lord, who corrects us with gentleness and patience, we are too often controlled by the world's demands and focused on the many urgent matters around us. Give us wisdom to know how and when to step away from these lesser things and turn to you so that we might learn how to live in your kingdom and in your way of life and might discover how our souls truly live, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. #Focus #Anxiety

A Collect for Wisdom in Conflict

“Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” - Luke 10:40 (ESV) Patient Lord, who knows the struggles of working with others, for you walked among us, and even you grew frustrated with your followers, give us your compassion and patience, so that we would avoid triangulation and blame and would bring our conflicts to others directly in a spirit of openness and compassion, that our relationships would mirror that of yours with the Father and Holy Spirit, with whom you live in perfect love, one God, now and forever. Amen. #Conflict #Relationships

A Collect for Hearing and Humility

'And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching.' - Luke 10:39 (ESV) Lord Jesus, who welcomes those who humble themselves at your feet and are willing to receive what you teach, grant us hearts that long to hear your words and a willingness to make ourselves present to you, that we might grow to share your mind and your heart and grow ever more able to live as you have called us in the world, through you who created the heavens and the earth and who lives with the Father and Holy Spirit in perfect wisdom. Amen. #Listening #Wisdom #Humility

A Collect for Focus

'And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving.' - Luke 10:39-40 (ESV) Patient Father, who knows our scattered minds and anxious hearts, we are distracted by many things and feel pressured and torn by all that we must accomplish and the many things we desire. Help us to set aside the distractions and things that are unimportant that we might have the space to focus on what is needful and good for our souls and your desires for your creation, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit in glory. Amen. #Focus #Distraction

A Collect for Compassion and Forgiveness

'Hear this, you who trample on the needy and bring the poor of the land to an end, saying, “When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may offer wheat for sale, that we may make the ephah small and the shekel great and deal deceitfully with false balances, that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals and sell the chaff of the wheat?” The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob: “Surely I will never forget any of their deeds."' - Amos 8:4-7 (ESV) You who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and who takes notice of every sparrow that falls, forgive us for loving money more than we love you and more

A Collect for Healing

'Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. ... But a Samaritan ... went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.' - Luke 10:30-34 (ESV) Blessed Savior, who has seen our half dead state and has taken compassion on us, bind up our wounds and bring us to where we may find rest and healing among those who will take care of us, that we might be made whole in you and rise to turn and have compassion in turn on others, who lives with the Father and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. A

A Collect for Compassion

'Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”' - Luke 10:36-37 (ESV) God of mercy, who sees us in our fallen state with compassion, give us hearts that desire to be a neighbor and care for those around us, that we would become like you and live in a world that is characterized by love, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who demonstrated love to the utmost and lives with you and the Holy Spirit in perfect relationship. Amen. #Compassion #Mercy #Love #GoodSamaritan

A Collect for Vulnerability

'And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”' - Luke 10:28-29 Jesus, full of mercy, you who knows our hearts and yet still is filled with love and compassion, give us courage to stand before you as we are, with all our needs and vulnerabilities, so that we might not need to protect and justify ourselves and would trust that you will lead us to wholeness and freedom from ourselves, through you, who lives in perfect union with the Father and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. #Mercy #Vulnerability #Love

A Collect for Love

'And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”' - Luke 10:25-28 Teacher, who is the culmination of the Law and who has shown us how the Law is lived, give us hearts that love you completely and hearts that are moved to love others with the fullness with which you love them, so that we might walk in your ways
