Matthew Green
A Maundy Thursday Collect
Good Shepherd of us sheep, you humbled yourself to the lowest place, elevating us and acting as our servant out of your great love and the security you have as the Father's beloved. Grant to us that same security and humility, that we would not shun the lowest place, but would freely give of ourselves in service, caring for your creations and your people, through you who knows the great love of the Father through the Holy Spirit. Amen.
'Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.' - John 13:3-5
What obstacles keep you from humbling yourself and serving others? Are there fears or shames or circumstances that hold you back? Talk with God about those things in your way and see if there are opportunities for him to love and heal places in your heart.
